What cable DSL router to get? [cable modem] [comptuer]
Q: I am looking for a cheap router for my cable modem, Im tired of leaving my comptuer all night access to the two other computers in the house take. The router is also the location of the cable modem itself? Is there even a combo device?
Also, which brands do you recommend? Im looking to keep it under $ 75.
There are three computers on the network.
Thanks.
Best Answer: DSL and cable modem should not make a difference at all. Now that you have reset your router does your wireless connection on your computer need to be reconfigured? As in did you have some security configured in the adapter and now resetting the router took it off the router? See if you can use the option to "find wireless networks" and connect that way.

Re:I′m using a Repotec RP-1812A (www.repotec.com)

Re:There are no significant differences between most of the Entry level Cable/DSL Routers.
Conventional Wisdom claims: The Routing Trinity.
1. Netgear RT314
2. Barricade 7004ABR
3. Linksys BEFSR41
Some Routers have an additional Printer Server, and DialUp Modem input for backup.
I would choose the one that has the features that fit the way you use the
Internet (and may be it is on sale).

Re:I second the SMC, but I went WiFi, too.
Re:Check this link out courtesy of guy (http://{$MySite}/arcmessageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=369286&highlight_key=y&keyword1=sharing). The router does not take the place of the cable modem. You put the router in between the connection from the cable modem to your computer. The popular brands of routers right now are SMC, Linksys, and Netgear. Some people prefer one over the other. I have the SMC Barricade and it works great. It has a print server and a dial-up modem backup, just in case your cable line goes down. The Linksys and the Netgear don't have this. But other than those 2 things, they're basically the same. Some routers have rebates that come with them, and they're prices have been dropping. Just do a search and you should be able to get something within your price range. Hope this helps.
