What is the best form of wireless security? [linksys wrt54g] [wpa]
Q: So what is the safeest form of wireless security? I realize all encripltion can be cracked, but what is the safest and most difficult to crack? I am using a Linksys WRT54G with firmware version 4.20.7
Options availble to me:
Disable
WPA Personal
WPA Enterprise
WPA2 Personal
WPA2 Enterprise
Radious
WEP
So which is best?

I'm using WPA PSK right now, but it's pretty useless, since I have like 3 neighbors in range of my network, and theirs are all unencrypted, so nobody's hacking me
Same here. I use the same WPA encryption and 3 other people in the neighborhood have completely open networks!

Re:Unless yours is the only AP in the area it probably won't matter. Even just WEP is enough to deter 99% of the people out there simply because it's usually simpler and quicker to drive another block and use an open AP.

WPA and AES

Re:WPA uses TKIP
WPA2 uses AES
for clarification….both can be had anyways by using hyperwrt firmware since you jsut manually set wpa encryption to AES on the router and at the clients
<–using AES:D
Re:I don't see any 4.20.7 but I still have 4.20.6 firmware and I never knew wrt54g have wpa2 that is great. I know wpa2 is better than wpa.
Re:I think you should clarify what are your needs.
If you have a regular, home, peer-to-peer setting and you use WRT54g.
As is, WPA2 Personal is your best choice.
For other settings, as mentioned above, you would need Special arrangements beyond what you probably have.

Re:WPA2, Enterprise if possible w/ RADIUS authentication.
At a minimum, WPA2-PSK.
Re:You want security…use WPA2 with EAP-TLS or EAP-Fast authentication
Re:May be this can Help, WEP, WPA, and WPA2. (http://www.ezlan.net/wpa_wep.html)

Re:Only one thing for sure, WEP is the weakest of the bunch.
Switch to any of the WPA options and you will be better protected!
I have to check WPA 2, wasn't aware of such!
Re:I think WPA 2 is the newest.
