What is the easiest way to get my wireless network secure? [wireless network]
Q: Not that their abuse of my wireless network, but I just want some protection keep me free from potential problems. I do not need anything too sophisticated, like someone trying to login, a pop-up window asking for username and password. WEP is the only way to go? Ive heard that it slows the entire network, right?

Exactly.

Turn off SSID Broadcast…
# – The only way they would get on it now is to manually type in your SSID
# – it cust the overhead of WEP or WAP
# – You don't have to keep dealing with dropped wifi due to encryption
Just make sure to change your SSID after you disable the broadcast…otherwise a smart neighbor will still remember your SSID and type it in and get on.
I have tried this with my WRT54G. My notebook equipped w/ a Dell Truemobile 1150 802.11b card can still connect, but my brother's desktop using a D-Link DWL-122 USB 802.11b card cannot.
If I enable broadcast, the D-Link can connect… Does this mean that the D-Link is not compatible with networks that do not broadcast their SSID?

People buy Cars.
Some do not Lock it at all.:
Some add no security.:shocked::
Some put the Club. :cookie:
Some put an Alarm that makes noise. :music:
Some put an Alarm that pages them in case of intrusion. :camera:
Some have a LOJack.
Some have few of the above, some has it all.
And even then; Nothing will help if the Car is already inside a Metal Contianer in the Port of Bayon, waiting to be shipped abroad.
So What to you do?
It depends on what you are using the Car for. :brokenheart:
What is in the Car.:gift:
The Value of the Car.
The Neibourhood that you Parked in.:o
Your own level of Anxiety.
And so On, and So On.
The same is with Wireless.

wep + restrict mac + use good random string of letters/numbers for wep generation to prevent dictionary attack um.. change key index every week or two. unless ur neighbors are hax0rs they won't get in. its possible but unlikely. check who's using it everonce in a while
i agree. it's very hard to pass through that many layers of security, unless they are elite hackers, which i very highly doubt.

Restrict MAC addresses
Re:Restrict MAC addresses
Re:I've never seen slowdown due to WEP. WEP is by far the easiest way to do it. The other options you can add to it that will make it tougher will be to have your router NOT broadcast the SSID.
You can also set your router to only hand out enough IP addresses for your computers, so anyone else who does get in would need to statically set theirs.
