What is the use of 64-bit version of Internet Explorer? [firefox] [internet explorer]

Q: Will we have a 64 bit version of ?

Best Answer: The problem is a weak signal that cuts in and out. The solution is obvious and you know what it is but you do not want to hear of it.

By the way, it is unethical and in most cases illegal to freeload off others. Many state that they think it is ok because the wireless is not secured. This is like saying it is ok to take someone else's car because it is unlocked and keys are in the ignition switch. Courts don't accept this defense either.

There is a website (http://www.mozilla-x86-64.com/) with for x64 downloads. I tried it some time ago and wasn't impressed; perhaps it has gotten better since then. It doesn't seem to be a straight recompilation of 1.5, either – I'm not really sure what version of the source it's actually compiled from.

And by the way, I have no idea what purpose IE64 serves. It can't be used for Windows Update – you've got to use IE32 for that, and I use (actually "Bon Echo," the horribly named IMHO but greatly performing and stable alpha for FF 2.0) for everything else.

I was wondering the same thing. Always interest me that the 64-bit version crashed on the update page.

Re:It definitely can, although it's harder to design the layout with those extra levels of abstraction. But I would guess that any app that requires any specific amount of pagefile space probably already has performance problems and needs fixing anyway.

Re:Ok that makes sense. I suppose it really doesn't matter from a performance standpoint (mutli disk vs. multi file on same disk) especially if the volumes are partitioned AND part of a RAID5 volume. :Q

Re:Yes it most certainly does allow paging files > 4GB. The machine I'm on now has a 32GB paging file. Created without any hacks. Noticed this by accident.

No, my point was that while the UI may not allow the creation of multiple pagefiles per partition it is possible. So you don't need multiple partitions to have >4G of pagefile space on a 32-bit system.

It's already 64-bit on Alpha, IA64, AMD64 and probably more on Linux.

Creating swapfiles as big as you want instead of the paltry 4095MB limit per disk is nice. There is one application that requires 32GB paging and previously that meant partitions or a lot of disks.

No it doesn't. The UI doesn't let you create them, but you can create multiple pagefiles on the same partition by editing the registry key manually.

UPDATE: Deer Park Alpha 2 (sounds like high tech bottled water hehe) works great HOWEVER none of the plugins want to work. Even manual configuring of handles does not work.

You have to use 64-bit plugins with the 64-bit version, that's why IE64 dosen't work with WU either.

Ok the 64 bit plugin part makes sense. Of course the plugin finder doesn't work and the option to add these manually appears to be disabled. :(

Re:Yes this post is through "Deer Park Alpha2".

All systems go, even adblock is working. :D

<- Afraid to look at task manager. ;)

Re:Wow, I would have never caught the removal of the 4GB per disk pagefile limit in x64, as none of my apps (primarily Photoshop) would take advantage of such excess. It is interesting to be running a unique and not-widely-used operating system, if only for the joys of occasionally discovering something very cool (even if not very useful in my case). :)

Re:LOL about windows update.

We cannot run windows update at all from the computers so I would've never caught that one.

I'll give the FF x64 a look. :)
