What kind of video card would take a 3000 + bottleneck? [amd 3000] [bottleneck]
Q: I want my video card (maybe SLI) and I was wondering what upgrade card would be goo to link with an AMD 3000 + (currently running at stock speed)
Best Answer: Your motherboard probably doesn't have the voltage regulation circuitry needed to allow you to use a multi core processor, so you're stuck with a single core, whether you get a faster one or not. AGP vs PCI Express is like comparing a dirt road to a 8 lane highway, how much traffic can they handle and at what speeds? Your memory is old and slow also, probably PC 2100 or so, you can go to crucial.com to find out. They still sell EIDE hard drives, forget the velociraptor, it's data transfer speeds would need to be reduced to work in your system. I would have to say that it's time to throw in the towel and go ahead and invest in a more modern system. You don't have to spend a lot of money for a decent system. For $499 you can get a system with a 2.8GHz dual core, 4GB memory, 500GB hard drive, CD/DVD burner, and a 19" monitor. It has a PCI E x16 slot and a (replacable) 300 watt ATX power supply. It's not a kick a** system, but it has potential. It's a Dell product, and I speak from experience, they make good products and have excellent customer support. It's worth considering.

Do you see people buying another 6800GT to complement their old one in SLI? No, because the latest single GPU's ecclipse the performance increase of the older cards in SLI. The same thing will happen whether you try to use SLI as an upgrade option for the 7600GT or 7900GT.
well, we'll see. . . for now i'm gonna go 7600GT. . . and who knows i might juust end up being the first person to use SLi as an upgrade option ![]()

lol thanks guy, it is out of my range. . . in response to thilan29, i don't plan on getting two cards for an SLi now, but using one 7600GT for now and then gettin another one when that one starts to show its age. i am aware that one 7900GT is better than two 7600GT's even though they perform similarly, i just don't have the money for that right now
A wise decision…

I have amd 64bit 3200 winchester and I recently bought a radeon X1900XTX, you should go for a radeon 1900XT or geforce 7900GTX, if you can't afford it then 1800XT
but you do need a radeon 1900XT even at 12X10 especially with aa and af

Re:I'd say buy the single card that you will be happy with.
Theres nothing wrong with keeping SLI open as an upgrade option. I do. I have a 7900GTX.. and I might and very well could add a 2nd GTX.
Its a great option to have.. esp if you have one of the very popular NF4 boards already!

Don't ever try to use SLI as an upgrade option.
Seriously. If you're gonna do SLI do it now or just get a fast single card.

yeah that's out of my range, but i do plan on overclocking, it's good to know that a 3000+ could handle something like that though
.
Try an X1800XT. Can be had for around $225 on NewEgg. It's the best card for that price, and better [sort of] than the 7900GT, which does cost more.
if you don't want to spend that much, a 7600GT is still a great choice.

Re:As ever, the card required depends on both the game played and the resolution used.
For most modern games running at the common 1280×1024 resolution, a 7900GT or 1800XT should be more than enough to get the best from your 3000+.

What have you got now?
i'm prolly gonna go with a 7600GT right now, and then add another in SLi within the next 6 months
Re:What have you got now?
I also suggest the X1900XT, it cant be beat. Except for that 7950 GX2 thing.
