Why are P-III-800's and 850's highest selling on eBay [based computer] [slot 1]

Q: Im considering upgrading an old computer with a new Bh6 faster CPU. The mobo will support up to a 850 (100 FSB) – Final 1. Ive been checking eBay and it looks like the prices they sell (used even companies) are scandalous. I can buy a new mobo and P4 2G or higher for only a few dollars more.

Anybody any idea why these older CPUs are too pricey?

Thanks,

Re:I sold my P3 1000 on Ebay for $187.50 – turned out to be a guy not too far from me who bought it.
I only paid about $112 for it ;)

Re:They are pricy because most people think that is the fastest CPU that will go in a slot1 mobo. Multipliers are locked. If it supports an 800 MHz CuMine, a 1 GHz will also work. You want a fast CPU for your BH6? Use a Slot-T Slocket ($20) and a 1.4 GHz Tualatin Celeron ($60).

Re:nope

But i do see what you mean 50$ is pretty high considering a amd 1700+ costs less than that.

I guess people just want to keep their old sets and just want a slightly faster chip.
