Wifiu003e Bridge u003e u003e Mac Wired NIC [crossover cable] [windows machine]
Q: So, I have a windows machine with wireless, I have a Mac, it should connect to the wireless, but does not have an AirPort card. If I bridge the wireless connection in the Windows machine, then connect the mac (does not need a crossover cable IIRC) to the windows machines network card, the MAC may then access the intarweb?
I only ask, because it is a big drive to the computer of this guy and I want to know if it will work before I set out .
Thanks, guys.
Re:The PC isn't passing the DHCP information. I'd suggest setting the mac's networking information staticly. However, a failure of the Mac to get that information is probably indicative of larger issues. As guy said, you will definitley need a crossover cable. You will probably also need to make sure that the firewall is nice and loose on the PC. Finally, I know this may sound obvious, but the PC will have to be on for the mac to get online. I'd strongly reccomend that you pony up for a second hand airport card rather than hassling with the PC.
Something else to keep in mind. Appletalk and appleshare don't typically work over wireless unless you have a 100% apple components, end to end in the network (airport hubs and cards).
Re:looks like the PC has trouble passing on data. The mac doesn't get assigned an IP, as well as DNS servers/gateway, etc. How do I get the PC to pass this data on? I tried manually enetering the info on each machine manually, and then both at the same time, but this didn't work…
TIA

If it's XP Pro, I wouldn't use ICS, but would use bridging instead
problem with bridging is that file sharing screws itself up sometimes, but seeing as the OP doesn't seem to need that, yeah, bridging would work welll.
I wrote a tutorial on briding in networking a while back

Re:1. you have to enable Internet connection sharing on the windows PC.
2. you will need a crossover cable….some macs have the auto-mdx thing but I haven't a clue which ones.
3. make sure that in the windows machien the wireless is set as the 'itnernet gateway" surign the ICS setup
