Windows 98SE simply detecting devices. [video device] [device manager]
Q: Ok Ive got a problem here!
When I start Windows only shows 16 colors and says that my video (machine) card is not properly installed, but it wont let me reinstall the drivers. So I go into device manager that it lists no devices whatsoever (even in safe mode) The only thing showing is “computer” 0.
Any ideas how to get this thing fixed?
Thanks boys and girls.
I barrel was rated and went ahead and formatted the HD (It had to happen anyway, for a while). But now its just the floppy? I check the bios, it looks OK, there and floppy cables enabled.Checked and removed all PCI cards . I am stuck and need help?
Here is what I have:
ECS K7S5A w/1200 athlon
512MB Crucial DDR
WD 40 Soundblaster Live Gig HD
Sound sound
Gainward 400 64MB video
Do you migh think that the MB?
The floppy light never comes on whern startup or the introduction of a disk and try an open file.It says: “A not ready or unavailable?
I tried to unplug it before I formatted floppy (which it was thought likely) to see if it help getting my drivers loaded, but nothing works, even the CD rom.
: disgust:
Re:I have seen a few floppy drives fail and they can cause some wierd problems when they do. Glad you found out what it was………..:)
Re:Ok THANKS GUYS,you got it,had to boot off of cd,I have a bad Floppy drive!
Damn thing must screwed everything up!I have a new one now, going to install it tonight!:P:cool::frown:
Re:do you have an os installed now? if not set first boot device as cd-rom create a new partition (delete the old one first) through fdisk, restart and run the windows setup program (if you need specific instructions on how to do this just post again)
Re:yank the sounblaster, make sure 1st boot device is the floppy, make sure you have a good boot disk(make a fresh one if you can)
i suspect you had an irq conflict but now we just need to get your system up, if you formatted, your cdrom will not work, it has no drivers now, make sure your floppy drive is good
