Re:Question, have you let winxp finish the scandisk or do you stop it? If you do stop it let it finish and see what happens. If it continues even after you let it finish run an error check in tools and check both options. This will require a reboot and run scandisk very thouroughly. Let it finish (may take a real long time depending on the size of your drive) and see if there are any errors that were fixed.

Re:Easy. I had this problem.
Boot into the Recovery Console (you need your CD for this bit). Press R to enter said Recovery Console.
Type this:
chkdsk /p d:
(yes, /p when in Recovery Console).
Do it again.
Reboot.
Your problem should be gone.

Do you shut down cleanly every time you shut down your machine?
Do you have ZoneAlarm installed? Is it the latest version, or an older version?
Have you installed all Microsoft XP updates?
Is D: FAT32 or NTFS?
When did this problem start?
Yes i shut down clean everytime.
No i do not have any zone alarm or any sort of antivirus software
I installed all windows xp updates except SP2.
The problem start around the time period where I enable file sharing of the drive on my network. But even when i disable the sharing features of the drive, it still does it.
Could it also be my WIndows media player 10? I also installed that recently.
