Windows XP: Mouse, but freezes computer? [advertisements] [windows xp]
Q: I have noticed ever since I moved to WinXP that sometimes my computer will be perfectly fine, but freezes my mouse . Cuz music is still . ads on Web pages still move .
Anyone know what does this?
Best Answer: The problem is that you probably have a more modern mouse that does not plug into a USB port. There are pros to this of course, but what is happening is that because it's not USB connected your computer has to "search" for the mouse drivers everytime your computer boots up as if it's a new device.
It's not missing drivers, it's just that you need to update them. Go to site that has drivers for your type of mouse and install and update your drivers on your mouse. Next time you turn your computer off, unplug the mouse and then plug it back in and reboot (I mean after you download new drivers). This should give your mouse a driver that it already "knows" so that it doesn't have to search for one every time you start up.
It should alleviate the problem for you.

Re:> I'm using a usb intellimouse and Win XP, the mouse freezing or locking up is getting worse daily, I've changed usb ports and the mouse still freezes. Has any one found a workaround?
Some revisions of this mouse (IMHO) are just buggy. In every case using the included PS2 adapater and running the mouse that way has resolved the problem. Newer ones seem to have fixed whatever the problem was, but from our first batch at work I think everyone eventually showed this problem.

Re:That used to happen to me too. I'm using Win2k though. My problem was the USB port. Try using the other USB port, or just unplug and plug the mouse back in when it stops responding.

Re:Did you try a different mouse? What IRQ is your USB on? Do you have a USB to PS/2 adapter to try it on the Ps/2 port?

Re:What kind of mouse is it? Is it USB or PS/2? If it's USB, what other USB devices do you have plugged in? It sounds like a resource conflict on the mouse/USB IRQ possibly. You should also try a different mouse.

Re:I know this sounds stupid, but have you checked and make sure the mouse is securely plugged in?
