WinXP Home Edition COA product key is not to reinstall? [hp pavillion] [weird one]
Q: I have a weird one. I try to reinstall Windows XP on my girlfriends mother on a HP Pavilion. It was refusing to boot at all, and could not be everywhere with the Recovery Console. Im using the HD in my computer and got an virus scan and ended up with 16 + virii on the machine, plus ad-aware found 96 ~ issues.
It still not boot, so I threw in an OEM copy of XP Home that I had acquired such a case, only to find that the CD Key printed on the COA is invalid. Ive used a keygen that there foating the key to test and even to argue it is invalid. The computer never came with an XP CD to restore everything was apparently a different partition on the HD. The only way to recover from that partition already, according to the website of HP, is a program that was originally installed on the computer. I happen to not be able to access.
So, what should I do? I tried to call HP, they say the computer is out of warranty and throw me to some 3rd party care center. I have been searching the Microsoft Web site for a number to call is simply no luck.
This freaking annoying. I have a perfectly legit what is key and it does not work. Why HP could do the normal recovery CDs like everyone else?!?!

Yeah, I found that out after I deleted that partition.
I figured that partition was useless without being able to windows. Whoops. You live and learn. I finally figured out who to get ahold of at HP and had a set of recovery discs sent out. The only reason I'm worried about those are for the perephials.
The recovery disks should have the drivers and original programs on them.
Re:I think you can buy recovery disks from them as long as you have the model number.
My cousin got disks for his computer, he had to pay $10 for the CDs and shipping. Idk what he had to do to get them tho but i think he just called em up

Re:HP has taken drivers off of their site for most of their computers. They have also stopped sending restore disks with their new computers. On the new computers you are supposed to burn your own disks, following their instructions. I have had to do similar things to what you want, and it came down to buying the real restore disks from HP, since they didn't burn the disks, or having the customer buy XP Pro, since I dislike XP Home, and reinstalling from scratch. Most models use Intel chipsets, so a number of drivers can be downloaded from them.
Some keys are are associated to the manufacturer, and will only work with their disks. They somehow do a check to the cd for a file telling it that it is an HP, or whoever.
