WinXP Pro installation problem – Random files missing? [computer motherboard] [systems forum]
Q: Copied from the Operating Systems Forum:
Here is the scoop:
I recently upgraded my computer. I decided to use the parts from my old computer to my moms computer (motherboard, video card, CPU and RAM upgrade only). After I got all the parts installed, I put all jumpers and connected to boot format / install of win xp. I used the same CD that I just used to my new computer, but for some reason, this computer gets to about 86% finished copying files, then load a screen that says something along the lines of “missing xxxxxx.dll, sure that the CD in the tray. “
Ive tried several times to reinstall, and it varies on when it will pop up. Sometimes it is at 2%, others as far as 88%, and the file is missing, almost every time different. I tried to change ram and format several times, and changing Win XP CD, but still comes up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here are my specs for the comp system: 2.4 GHz CPU +
P4
ECS P4VXASD2
2×512mb PC2100 DDR RAM disk
30gb
1
1 CD ROM CD RW drive
floppy
unsure specs on the PSU
Re:Hmm.. it is an old HDD so I'll try running that. Yeah, I formatted in NTFS during the setup. Thanks for the advice, will try it tonight.
Re:It could be the hard drive is going bad since XP actually copies 90% of the files to the hard drive before the installation. Run the hdd mfg diag program on that drive. Also, did you format in NTFS using WinXP setup?
Re:Hehe yeah, I've tried them both, used different win xp pro cds as well in each. The weird part is that it does it at random files (so inconsistent) erg…
