World of Warcraft hardware upgrades question [drive windows xp] [geforce 4]
Q: Hey folks.
I him on holiday and my friend to World of Warcraft issues. He will need to upgrade, and is looking for spending $ 200. This is what Ive put together, but I would like to get your opinion because I know zero about game.
He has:
Athlon XP 2400 MB 4 MX4000 64MB PCI 977 503 384 PC2700
Geforce Video
40GB 5400-rpm hard Drive
Windows XP.
I told him to get 1GB PC3200 and a Radeon 9800 Pro. They resemble the neck of the bottle into the system. Do you agree?
Edit: After looking at the Anandtech guide for WoW and talking with him, we are now thinking of a 6600GT video card.

Thanks, guys. We went ahead and ordered a 6600GT and 1GB of memory.
 That should do it.
Yep, good call.

yeah you'll definetly be good to go at that point, and of course down the line when he has more money a new mobo and cpu will help greatly…

Re:Isn't a 6600gt a better price/performance card now? And yeah, ram + video card ftw

The 9800 pro and 1 gig of ram will make him run WoW really good yeah.Make sure he have an AGP slot for the 9800 pro tho
i wouldnt say really good, but it would be a lot better than what he is running it now.
and yes chaotic, those 2 things are huge bottle necks. i think its amazing he can run it at all with that set up.
