WoW Server question . on the post-glory era [pve] [pvp]
Q: I am thinking of starting my subscription to this game again and was wondering if I PvP all the nasty attacks to prevent the game and just play PvE grouping. By joining an RP server, I get around this or whats the deal? I have no interest in PvP. Also, how does battlefields on normal and RP servers?

From rumors, RP servers are less childish, simply because they enforce some rules on what can be in general chat, and what character names can be. I have no experience with RP servers so don't know. Obviously PvP servers attract jerkwads, because really the only difference between Normal and PvP rulesets is that the PvP ruleset encourages being a jerkwad.
Nobody on the RP servers enforced jack squat in the general chat. You still have all manner of jerkwads and idiots spouting all manner of BS. Blizzard seems to ignore their RP servers almost entirely. If you actually want to RP, don't expect to do it in general chat or /say. You will get mocked for it. You can RP in a group though, depends on the group.
Yeah, I wanted to try a RP server, since I have a few "RP-ish" chat macros I use on my normal server, and thought the whole immersion thing might be fun once in a while. Once I joined, however, I quickly realized that RP == PvE in every single regard, except for the occasional "Would thou know where to find the missing Biggles?" question.

Sad but true.
Blizzard doesn't enforce chat…only (somewhat) names. I reported a guild in my RP server called 'teh PvPwnz0rz' and they forced them to change the name, but Orgrimmar's general chat and /say is full of 'lol's 'rolf's and 'OMG's that supposedly shouldn't be allowed.
The only way to actually role play is to join a RP guild and keep track of all the RPers in your server.

Re:BGs work on normal server but you will see fewer players in them. If you plan on participating in BGs at all, I would choose Horde simply because they are usually the limiting factor on the generation of the BGs (Warsong Gulch is 10 vs. 10 there may be 80 alliance but only 20 Horde, so alliance will have to wait a LONG time between matches).
Generally Horde are a little better than alliance in terms of maturity, once you get out of the Barrens, but the difference isn't huge. Active Alliance outnumber active Horde on every normal and RP server. My server (Terenas) is approximately a 2.4:1 activity ratio, which means the active population is about a 70:30 split. Just from the sheer numbers you get more dumbasses on alliance, but ratio-wise I'd say the Horde is only slightly better. (I've played Horde side to 60, but alliance side only to level 30 or so)

I would choose a server based on population, the side you want to play and a guild. Guilds make or break the experience in my opinion. It's important to find one with players who play at your usual playtime and with enough players that you can usually go on instance runs with 2 or more guildies, minimizing the number of random pickups you need.
While battlegrounds has minimized the PvP zergfests at Crossroads and Tarren Mill, I still occasionally see them on my server at Crossroads (rarely at TM). I presume this is because of the long queue times for Alliance on my server due to the population imbalance… they get bored, and decide to invade crossroads, which isn't all that far from the Warsong Battlegrounds entrance. But these don't affect a young character much, they rarely kill questgivers repeatedly, and barrens has so many quests you can keep yourself busy outside of Crossroads for fairly long periods of time.

just join a pve server. Most of the town raiding has stopped due to battlegrounds and dishonor kills of cilvillans.
The battlegrounds work the same in every server. 10 (or 40) people from each faction go at each other to achieve some goals and to kill each other in the process. Before you join a server try to find out if BGs are active on that server. For several servers, the altarec valley ( 40v40) BG never starts since there are not enough horde(or alliance) joined up.
So BGs should be working on medium pop Normal servers?
Also, would you guys agree that more "mature" players play horde? Any servers known to be less childish? Any that you can recommend to me?
Thanks in advance you WoWers.

Re:Is a PVE server considered Normal or RPG by the Blizz standards? Which ones do you know of that would be good for me to join up? I want a decently populated server so I can find groups and interact with others. Also, have the long ass queues at night ended or is that still occuring for populated servers?
