XP can delete files, folders, but not [help xp] [folders]

Q: Hey heres my problem. I mounted drive and I can delete files from it but not . I disabled simple file sharing, so I can adjust permissions. My username is an admin and has full rights . but can not remove folder.

Re:The drive was formatted on my computer with my account. Everything created there was either copied from my main hard drive or created by myself.

I cannot get into the System Volume Information folder either.

Re:Did the directory were created with a diff admin profile, or you has move the hdd from another machine?

If the above is true, you then need to del the old owner ship of the directory will have a long string of mixed characters for name.
Then add your new admin account to it & take the ownership of it.

Re:I get this problem sometimes, I believe its due to XPs NTFS security features…for some reason it refuses to release the folder for deletion because it thinks a process is still using it.

Make sure you don't have any anti-virus, filesharing apps or DOS command windows open etc and retry….failing that reboot and then delete it if you can.

Re:Have you tried changing the ownership? (it's in security/advanced/owner tab). Even if it says the owner is Admin, try click on the one in the box and hit apply & try again.

Re:Does it give you any kind of message? If so what does it say? What are the permissions on the folder?
