Re:Only reason I turn mine off is because it's in my bedroom and I'd rather not wait for the glow of the monitor to turn itself off when I'm trying to get to sleep, but that's the nice thing about LCD's, not having to wait for them to come on or change resolutions like most CRT's, almost instant changes :)

Re:Monitors turn off? :Q

Seriously, I use powersave. One of my monitors doesn't even have a power switch.

I'm thinking it's because it was sitting in a garage for a year or so, or maybe just because it's a Sun :)

Re:I have a 10 year old and 5 year old CRT at home. I turned them on and off repreatedly throughout the years and they still work. I did have one CRT only last 2 years. At work I have used and supported hundreds of CRTs, mostly Viewsonic and they are very reliable. Now medical imaging CRT monitors are some crappy devices (50% reliable in a year's time), but most of you probably don't care.

Re:yes, the whole thing is rather silly. turning on and off the tube may stress it, but the power button does not do that. its silly when I see people with their off buttons taped with signs on them not to turn it off, when its sitting their off anyway…

i have not done any testing to verify what actually stresses the monitor, but i do notice the older they get the longer they take to bring the picture up. in any event rarely have i had a monitor die. i have my first monitor still and its over 10 years old.

Re:I've never powered down mine completely at work for over three years. I just have a 20 min power saver

Re:power saving off mode is the same as off, except a little led is on, which uses less power then a rock. I leave it on, with it set to auto off with 5 mins of inactivity.

Re:My Hitachi CM772 has been left "on" for 3 1/2 years. I have power saving turn it "off" after 20 minutes. Since I frequently will get up from the computer and sometimes not come back for a day or so, this keeps me from having to remember to turn the monitor off every time.
